2008 Car Show

Summer Daze 2008
The Scappoose Historical Society held their sixth annual car show at Heritage Park in Scappoose on August 16th. Although the temperature was 100 plus there were 70 entries – 47 repeat entries and 23
new entries. Exhibitors came as far away as Forest Grove, Castle Rock, Portland, Vancouver and
surrounding towns.
Mike Judah was our Master of Ceremonies, doing a wonderful job of keeping the show moving plus
announcing the raffle and award winners. The judges for the car awards were Jerry Holmes, Nick Pouch, Al Petromis, Larry Etzel and Bob Neal.
Jon Hanken, City Manager of Scappoose, chose The Scappoose Historical Society’s award which went
to Mike and Vickie Gallurro of Vancouver for their 1940 Mercury two door sedan. Scott Burge, Mayor
of Scappoose, chose the first Mayor’s award to be presented at Summer Daze to Fred Dyson’s 1933
Ford two door sedan. The Kid’s award went to Terry and Janet Stewart’s 1956 Ford Town Sedan.
The People’s Choice award went to Robert and Linda Maak for their 1968 Chevy Impala.
Mr. Loren Ragan’s Jack Daniels truck had a honorary spot in the show for having won the 2007 Scappoose Historical Society’s award.
For the sixth year, the band, Freedom Street kept all feet taping with their great music and The Watts House was open for tours with over 100 people going through the house.
The Scappoose Lions Club’s booth and the Friends of the Library both reported having a very good day with lots of activity.
We were so pleased to have the Scappoose firemen and EMTs at the show. They volunteer their time, showing all interested parties their equipment and informing them about their jobs.
