Working today to preserve the past for future generations.

The Scappoose Historical Society, established in 1974, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to preserve and restore the Watts House Pioneer Museum in Scappoose, Oregon.

In pursuit of our mission, we have discovered the greatest joy in uniting the community at events, engaging with the many who generously support our cause, and proudly serving as hosts to what has evolved into our town's central gathering place.

History Connections Talk: Columbia County in the 1850s

The Scappoose Historical Society invites the community to another engaging History Connections Talk on January 29 at 7:00 PM, hosted at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church
📍 51555 Old Portland Road, Scappoose

Our featured speaker will be Andrew Demko, Social Studies teacher and History Club advisor at Rainier Jr./Sr. High School, where he has taught since 2008.

Andrew’s presentation will explore the 1850s in Columbia County and surrounding areas, including the founding of Columbia County and the City of Rainier, and the stories of some of the people who lived here during that formative decade.

To close the evening, select student members of the Rainier History Club will take part by portraying individuals from 1853, showcasing the club’s award-winning Rainier Revisited program.

This free, public talk is a wonderful opportunity to connect with local history and support student-led historical interpretation. All are welcome.
